about

Lonely Boys are Daphne Ahlers and Rosa Rendl - an artist collective who produce and perform music since 2010. They started out when they both studied in London and are now based between Berlin in Vienna. Their over-emotional pop-songs are built around a raw instrumental base and lyrics that emphasize on sexual dynamics and fission.

Manipulations of voice and identity. Through the sincerity of pop sentiment, unmistakably honest expressions of love and feeling with words woven into its music and emerging to the fore that leaves their audience both comforted and at times confronted. Harmonious refrains, hollow resonances circulating freely into a warm embrace. The physical partnership between the performing bodies, whether in unison or solo, employed as an instrument or an individual is never fixed. Natural timbres neatly spliced among synthetic inflections, Lonely Boys are cyborg emotions that make you feel relentlessly human.

"In a world unknown to us they say we cry too much" harks back to Carla Lonzis writings and describes the sensation of women, who live in a world that is shaped by a male host culture and therefore incomprehensible to them.

The second track, "Endless", also describes a certain longing for a world that seems to be ungraspable and relationships between humans that are characterized by a lack of emotional empathy.

Daphne Ahlers and Rosa Rendl, who both also follow their individual artistic practices, have recently performed at KW-Institute of Contemporary Art (Berlin) Sandy Brown (Berlin) Real Fine Arts (New York), Kunsthalle Bern amongst others.
